How to command routing of Elbow Connector?

I'm trying to apply Elbow connectors (in Excel 2003) to show how one row of a spreadsheet is re-directed to another. I desire the connector to run horizontally for a short scrap, and then become vertically for a longer span to another row, then take a brusque horizontal segment with an pointer pointing into the new row.

When I identify the elbow connector in a more than vertical aspect ratio, it configures itself to have a long vertical run, a curt horizontal run, and so a long vertical run. This doesn't piece of work since "ends" that are supposed to show the connection to spreadsheet rows are vertical.

How can I configure the elbow connector to remain in the horizontal-vertical-horizontal configuration regardless of the aspect ratio of the endpoints? Format Autoshape offers no help. Rotation is grayed out.

What you need is a right brack rather than an elbow.

This code will add together and format a bracket between ii cells.

Re: How to control routing of Elbow Connector?

Andy,

Thanks for the macro lawmaking. It works, but the shape is non what I'grand looking for. It goes correct, downwards, left. (like the "]" grapheme). I want a shape that goes right, down, right. (More like a "Z" with the diagonal stroke straightened)

Hither is an ASCII version of the shape I'm trying to get:

--
|
|
|
|
|
-->

Tin can a subclass exist adjusted to accept one end point left of the vertical while the the other terminate points right?

Re: How to command routing of Elbow Connector?

I see what you hateful now.

The direction of the horizontal/vertical line is dependent upon the ratio of the H/V lengths. If you lot make the shape wide plenty the lines will flip.

Try using a freeform shape.

Re: How to command routing of Elbow Connector?

Thank you Andy,
That does the trick exactly. Actually, now that I know it is built from Freeform, I see that the Freeform tin can exist entered interactively from the Autoshapes Lines menu. When I looked at that menu, the icon appears to exist a curved shape, and then I thought it was only able to depict freeform curves. But does provide straight line segments, which is perfect.

If y'all release the mouse between points when using freeform y'all will get the straight lines. If you keep the mouse push pressed information technology acts more similar the scribble tool.

Re: How to control routing of Elbow Connector?

There is a way to achieve the desired result using the standard elbow connector. If yous draw the connector beyond a row boundary (for horizontal arrows) or across a cavalcade boundary (for vertical arrows), and then insert rows or columns in the middle of the shape, Excel volition extend the connector, leaving you with the shape the OP is looking to create, with an elongated key section.

How to control routing of Elbow Connector?

The trick I use is to put a shape, similar a filled circle, at the kickoff and stop point. Set the size of the circumvolve and so it's simply a dot. Yous can make ane and then just copy and paste...
And then I use the elbow connectors and attach the ends to the dots. Excel will automatically endeavour to connect to the dots. You tin control the direction of attachment by moving the mouse around near the dot.
Afterwards yous attach you can elevate the horizontal and vertical parts of the connector to how you want and it will behave quite nicely.

Re: How to control routing of Elbow Connector?

Thanks. It worked. I just increased the cavalcade width and reduced information technology back.
